THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
       NORTHEAST GEORGIA
       WEST CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
       CENTRAL AND UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA
   
EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 350 PM UNTIL
1100 PM EDT.
   
TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.
   
THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 70 STATUTE
MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES WEST OF ATHENS
GEORGIA TO 35 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR

THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
   
DISCUSSION...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE INCREASING OVER PORTIONS OF
NORTHERN GA AND CENTRAL SC...IN VICINITY OF A RETREATING SURFACE
BOUNDARY.  VAD PROFILES AND FORECAST SOUNDINGS OVER THIS REGION SHOW
FAVORABLE LOW LEVEL AND DEEP LAYER VERTICAL SHEAR PROFILES FOR
SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS...AND ISOLATED
TORNADOES.  POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR MULTIPLE PERIODS OF CONVECTION
THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING ACROSS THE WATCH AREA.
   
AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
