Severe thunderstorms developed during the afternoon hours of November 17th, 2013 in advance of a strong cold front. The storms blew down and uprooted numerous trees across lower Michigan, caused numerous power outages, significant straight line wind damage and even several brief weak EF-0 tornadoes. Some of the damage was done in Mattawan, Michigan, partially removing some of the roof from Mattawan High School along with tree damage.
The storms left more than 230,500 people without power Statewide. In Western and Central Michigan, some of the hardest hit areas were in Van Buren, Ottawa, Barry, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, and Clare Counties.
A severe thunderstorm produced multiple brief EF-0 tornadoes along a more than 50 mile path from Muskegon county northeast through Newaygo county into Mecosta county. The tornadoes were on the ground for very short periods of time. Mostly tree damage was incurred but there was also damage to several buildings and fences.

Heavy Rainfall
Thunderstorms not only brought through Damage Winds and Tornadoes but Heavy Rainfall came through the region dropping a swath of 3-4 inches in a region in northern Newaygo county.
