NWS Disclaimer for Photo Use

We, the National Weather Service (NWS), will accept:

digital image files (.jpg, .tif, .png, .gif, and .bmp)
digital video files (.avu, .mov, .mp4, .mpeg, .qt, .rm, and .wmv)

Links to images posted elsewhere on the Internet (i.e., other photo galleries) will not be accepted.  Only images and videos that are attached to your e-mail will be considered.  Images with personal trademarks or captions will not be accepted.

When sending digital images, submission of the following information is voluntary.  However, without this information, the image(s) may not be accepted:

Photographer's name
Photographer's e-mail address
Where the photo was taken
Express written information in your e-mail that you are the rightful owner of the image

By submitting images, you understand that your image is being released into the public domain. This means that your photo or video may be downloaded, copied, and used by others.

The NWS offers no compensation for any images or videos.

The use of any images or videos by the NWS does not constitute an endorsement by the NWS of any information, products, or services.

Any submitted images may be used by the NWS or its parent organization, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, in storm reports, training presentations, printed materials, and web sites.

Images selected for use will be judged on uniqueness and appropriateness.  Not all images submitted will be used.

Images may be added to or removed from our photo galleries at any time.

You may or may not receive a reply e-mail or confirmation that your image has been selected for the photo galleries.  We do not check our photo/video e-mail account every day.

If we receive complaints of copyright infringement, the image in question will be removed immediately.
