Periods of showers continue over the weekend, heavy at times on Sunday. A potential remains for a wintry mix to affect some locations across far northeast and northwest sections of Central Alabama, especially Saturday morning. There is a low risk for severe thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening across the southern-third of Alabama. Cold weather is expected all of next week.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for counties near the Highway 278 corridor from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. An icy mix may occur at times, though most of the precipitation should be a cold rain. Be cautious as slick travel conditions may develop.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Calhoun and Cleburne counties from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon. If enough cold air makes it in from Georgia, an icy wintry mix could develop, though at this time most of the precipitation should be a cold rain. Be aware that slick travel conditions could develop.
There is a level 1 risk for severe thunderstorms near and southeast of Interstate 85 on Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm. Threats include a couple brief tornadoes and damaging wind gusts.
Mostly cloudy with a light wintry mix possible in the far northwest early Saturday morning. Lows ranging in the mid-20s north to mid-40s south.
Periods of showers are expected on Saturday with highs from the upper 30s far northwest areas to the upper 50s southeast areas. A wintry mix may occur at times for counties from Marion and vicinity eastward to Cherokee County and vicinity, mainly during the morning hours.
