Powerful Pacific System Impacting the West; First Significant Snow for Portions of the East

Power Pacific system will continue to bring significant impacts for Pacific Northwest into northern California the remainder of the week. Dangerous coastal affects, heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and higher elevation mountain snow continues. Meanwhile, a storm across the east is set to bring the first accumulating snow to many higher elevations of the Catskills into the central Appalachians. Read More >

 2024 NWS Aberdeen Spotter Training

Check back as we continue to add classes to our schedule for 2024 SKYWARN storm spotter training.  In addition to several in-person classes this spring, we will offer virtual training as well.

The class will cover many topics including: weather safety, thunderstorm development, identifying different storm features, and how to report to the National Weather Service. Even as new technology allows the National Weather Service to issue warnings with greater lead time, spotters will always serve as a critical link between Doppler radar indications of severe weather and what’s actually happening on the ground. Anyone with an interest in weather or weather safety is encouraged to attend.

All training is free and usually lasts around 2 hours.

Main NWS Aberdeen contact for spotter training is Kelly Serr.
