September 2017 got off to a cool start but flipped to extremely warm in the second half of the month, highlighted by the historic late season heat wave from September 20th to 26th. Much of the area experienced 90+ degree temperatures for that entire one week period. The very dry weather pattern that formed in August 2017 intensified in September 2017, with many areas, including Chicago and Rockford, receiving less than an inch of rainfall for the month.
