Snow Across the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast; Unsettled Weather in the West

Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. This weekend into next week, a series of atmospheric rivers will bring gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and mountain snow to northern California and the Pacific Northwest. A slow-moving Alberta Clipper system produced 3-6" across most of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana from the night of Sunday, January 14 through the day of Monday, January 15.  Lake effect snow continued into northeast Illinois the night of the 15th and then pivoted into far northwest Indiana on Tuesday, January 16.  The lake effect snow became heavy at times, especially into Porter County, Indiana.
