Powerful Pacific System Impacting the West; First Significant Snow for Portions of the East

Power Pacific system will continue to bring significant impacts for Pacific Northwest into northern California the remainder of the week. Dangerous coastal affects, heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and higher elevation mountain snow continues. Record Breaking Winter Weather Event 11/29/06 to 12/01/06

An arctic cold front moved through Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday Nov 29th putting an end to the unseasonably warm weather that the area had enjoyed for an extended period of time. Temperatures dropped nearly 30 degrees in a short period of time in the wake of the cold front. Thunderstorms...some severe developed in the vicinity of the cold front as it moved through the region. A wintry mix of precipitation began to develop late Wednesday afternoon and evening across portions of Northeast Oklahoma as warm air overran the cold air at the surface. The precipitation continued Wednesday night into Thursday (11/30) as a wintry mix...mainly north of a McAlester, Oklahoma to Fort smith Arkansas line. A strong upper level low pressure system moved through the region Thursday into Thursday night producing additional precipitation across the area. The precipitation ended late Thursday night as the upper level low pressure system moved to the northeast of the region. This storm system produced a record breaking 10.4 inches of snow at Tulsa, Oklahoma with measurable snow being reported as far south as McAlester, Oklahoma.
