Severe Thunderstorms Across the Central Plains; Hot Conditions in the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley

Severe thunderstorms are expected mainly from Kansas into northern Missouri and into Iowa Tuesday. Damaging winds will be the most likely threat, with large hail possible. An Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) of severe thunderstorms is in effect. Yanush Tornado

 

A tornado touched down 7 miles southwest of Hartshorne in Pittsburg County at approximately 5:30 pm. The tornado was rated an EF2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with maximum wind speeds of 125 to 135 mph. The tornado track length was approximately 22 miles with a maximum width of one third mile. This tornado struck Yanush and then lifted 1.3 miles east northeast of Yanush.
