Elevated fire weathers are expected in southern California where dry conditions and locally gusty winds will linger into Thursday. A very cold airmass remains in place across the East Coast. Heavy rainfall occurred over eastern Kansas on Tuesday Sep 13 into Wed Sep 14.
Some areas in northeast and east central Kansas received considerable rainfall Tuesday morning. Then isolated thunderstorms dropped some heavy rain near Topeka Tuesday evening. Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, a larger area of heavy rain affected eastern Kansas, mainly near and north of I70.
This excessive precipitation led to various types of flooding, with the hardest hit areas in Jefferson and Brown counties. Brown county reported some roads washed out near Robinson.
The maximum rainfall total received in the 24 hour period ending at 7 AM Wednesday the 14th was 8.31" near Robinson in eastern Brown county. Below is a graphic of radar rainfall estimates for that 24 hour period. Below that is a listing of selected rain gauge observations of heavier 24 hour amounts across the area.
Additional scattered areas of heavy rain are possible later this week, so more flooding is a possibility. Pay attention to the latest forecasts and warnings from your National Weather Service.
