A very cold Arctic air mass dove southeast into the eastern Plains and Upper Mississippi valley, bringing the coldest air of the year for the region. A couple of quick moving upper level jet streaks, the first one on the evening of the 29th into the early morning of the 30s and the second during the afternoon and evening of the 30th, brought some narrow bands of snow to the area within this colder air mass.
The first wave of snowfall began during the mid to late evening and pushed from southeast Kansas across the Springfield metro and into parts of south central Missouri. This wave of snow lingered into the early morning hours of the 30th and brought between 1 to 3 inches of snow to parts of the area.
The second wave of snow began in another narrow band over southeast Nebraska and eventually transitioned eastward near the KC Metro and into central Missouri during the afternoon. The snow ended over the eastern Ozarks during the evening with around 1 to 2 inches of snow in the far eastern sections of Maries and Phelps counties.
