Heat Continues for the East and South-Central U.S.; Strong to Severe Storms Across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast

The extremely dangerous heat wave continues across the East Coast and much of the South-Central U.S. today. Record high temperatures are expected for some areas especially across the Mid-Atlantic where extreme heat risk conditions reside. March of 2022 started out and ended warm and dry, with periods of cold and wet weather the rule through out the rest of the month, as several weather systems brought cool and unsettled weather to south central and southeast Colorado. Occasional breezy to windy conditions also brought periods of critical fire weather conditions to portions of south central and southeast Colorado through out the month of March.  For the month of March as a whole, generally below normal temperatures and precipitation were experienced across south central and southeast Colorado, save for pockets of above normal precipitation across southeast Colorado.

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of March was 32.4 degrees, which is 2.5 degrees below normal. Alamosa recorded 0.44 inches of precipitation through the month of March, which is 0.07 inches below normal. Alamosa recorded 5.7 inches of snow through the month of March.  

 

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of March was 41.1 degrees, which is normal. Colorado Springs recorded 0.75 inches of precipitation through the month of March, which is 0.04 inches below normal. Colorado Springs recorded 7.9 inches of snow through the month of March, which is 2.4 inches above normal.    

 

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of March was 41.2 degrees, which is 2.7 degrees below normal. Pueblo recorded 1.33 inches of precipitation through the month of March. This is 0.51 inches above normal and makes March of 2022 the 17th wettest March on record in Pueblo. This remains well behind the wettest March of 1905, when 3.05 inches of precipitation was recorded in Pueblo. Pueblo recorded 8.9 inches of snow through the month of March. This is 4.4 inches above normal and makes March of 2022, tied with March of 1983, as the 28th snowiest March on record in Pueblo. This remains well behind the snowiest March of 1948, when 22.4 inches of snow fell in Pueblo.    

 

Looking ahead into April in Alamosa, the average high and low temperature of 57 degrees and 21 degrees on April 1st, warm to 64 degrees and 29 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of April in Alamosa is 42.6 degrees.  Alamosa averages 0.57 inches of precipitation through the month of April.      

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperature of 59 degrees and 31 degrees on April 1st, warm to 65 degrees and 38 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of April in Colorado Springs is 47.5 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 1.45 inches of precipitation and 5.5 inches of snow through the month of April. On average, April is the 2nd snowiest month of the year in Colorado Springs.          

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperature of 65 degrees and 31 degrees on April 1st, warm to 71 degrees 40 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of April in Pueblo is 51.3 degrees.  Pueblo averages 1.57 inches of precipitation and 4.4 inches of snow through the month of April. On average, Pueblo sees it's last freeze by April 29th.
