July of 2022 was a warm and relatively wet month across south central and southeast Colorado, as the southwest summer monsoon brought in periods of abundant moisture and bouts of heavy rainfall across the region. For the month as a whole, above normal temperatures and at and above normal precipitation was  experienced across most of south central and southeast Colorado.   

The following graphics depict monthly temperature and precipitation departures from normal across the state for the past month of July.

 

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of July was 66.9 degrees. This is 1.6 degrees above normal and makes July of 2022 the 8th warmest July on record. This remains well behind the warmest July of 2011, when the average monthly temperature was 68.4 degrees.  Alamosa recorded 1.62 inches of precipitation through the month of July. This is 0.58 inches above normal and makes July of 2022 the 18th wettest July on record. This remains well behind the wettest July of 2017, when 3.52 inches of precipitation was recorded in Alamosa. 

 

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of July was 74.7 degrees. This is 2.3 degrees above normal and makes July of 2022 the 7th warmest July on record. This remains well behind the warmest July or 2003, when the average monthly temperature was 78.8 degrees.  Colorado Springs recorded 5.35 inches of precipitation through the month of July. This is 2.23 inches above normal and makes July of 2022, tied with July of 1921, as the 5th wettest July on record. This remains behind the wettest July of 1930, when 6.59 inches of precipitation was recorded in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs set or tied 4 daily record high temperatures through the month of July, including July 23rd, when the temperature topped out at 100 degrees, marking only the 11th time on record that the temperature was at or above the century mark in Colorado Springs. 

 

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of July was 79.7 degrees. This is 2.5 degrees above normal and makes July of 2022 the 10th warmest July on record. This remains well behind the warmest July of 2003, when the average monthly temperature was 81.2 degrees. Pueblo recorded 2.12 inches of precipitation through the month of July, which 0.23 inches above normal.  Pueblo tied or set 5 daily record highs, including a toasty 108 degrees on July 23rd, just 1 degree off the all time record high temperature of 109F set on July 13th, 2003. Pueblo topped out at or above the century mark 12 times through out the month of July, becoming tied with July of 2005 and 1987, as the 4th most July 100 degree days in Pueblo. This remains well behind July of 2003, when the high temperature in Pueblo topped out at or above 100 degrees 23 times!  

 

Looking ahead into August in Alamosa, the average high and low temperature of 82 degrees and 48 degrees on August 1st cools to 79 degrees and 43 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of August in Alamosa is 63.2 degrees.  Alamosa averages 1.29 inches of precipitation through the month of August. On average, August is the wettest month of the year in Alamosa.   

In Colorado Springs,  the average high temperature and low temperature of 86 degrees and 59 degrees on August 1st, cool to 82 degrees and 54 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of August in Colorado Springs is 70.1 degrees. Colorado Springs averages 2.96 inches of precipitation through the month of August.  On average, August is the 2nd wettest month of the year in Colorado Springs.       

In Pueblo, the average high temperature and low temperature of 92 degrees and 62 degrees on on August 1st, cools to 88 degrees and 56 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of August in Pueblo is 74.8 degrees. On average, August is the wettest month of the year in Pueblo.
