Severe Thunderstorms in the East Sunday; Excessive Heat Lingers in the Southern U.S. and Returning to California

October of 2021 followed a similar pattern as previous months with being mainly warm and dry across south central and southeast Colorado, save for a few passing weather systems which brought brief cool downs with passing cold fronts and strong winds, along with some passing showers and some mountain snowfall. For the month of October as a whole, above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation were experienced across south central and southeast Colorado, save for below normal temperatures across the San Luis Valley and above normal precipitation across portions of the southwest and central mountains.

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of October was 42.7 degrees. This is 1.1 degrees below normal and makes October of 2021 the 24th coolest October on record in Alamosa. This remains well above the coldest October, 1969, when the average October temperature was 38.5 degrees. Alamosa recorded 0.36 inches of precipitation through the month of October. This is 0.26 inches below normal and makes October of 2021 the 36th driest October on record. This remains well behind the driest October's of 1934 and 1995, when no precipitation was recorded in Alamosa.  

 

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of October was 53.1 degrees. This is 2.4 degrees above normal and makes October of 2021 the 13th warmest October on record in Colorado Springs. This remains well behind the warmest October of 1963, when the monthly average temperature was 58.2 degrees. Colorado Springs recorded 0.26 inches of precipitation and no snow through the month of October, which is 0.51 inches and 2.5 inches below normal, respectively.    

 

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of October was 55.0 degrees. This is 2.2 degrees above normal and makes October of 2021 tied as the 27th warmest October on record in Pueblo. This remains well behind the warmest October of 1963, when the average monthly temperature was 61.0 degrees. Pueblo recorded 0.14 inches of precipitation and no snow through the month of October, which is 0.62 inches below normal and 1.9 inches below normal, respectively. The 0.14 inches of precipitation makes October of 2021 tied as the 24th driest October on record in Pueblo, and remains well behind the  driest October of 1931, when no precipitation fell in Pueblo. 

 

Looking ahead into November in Alamosa, the average high and low temperature of 56 degrees and 18 degrees on November 1st, cool to 41 degrees and 6 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of November in Alamosa is 30.3 degrees.  Alamosa averages 0.37 inches of precipitation through the month of November.    

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperature of 59 degrees and 31 degrees on November 1st, cool to 47 degrees and 21 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of November in Colorado Springs is 39.5 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 0.37 inches of precipitation and 4.4 inches of snow through the month of November.               

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperature of 63 degrees and 29 degrees on November 1st, cool to 51 degrees 19 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of November in Pueblo is 40.5 degrees.  Pueblo averages 0.47 inches of precipitation and 4.1 inches of snow through the month of November. .
