Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. This weekend into next week, a series of atmospheric rivers will bring gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and mountain snow to northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Colder temperatures are in store for the weekend from the Great Lakes to East Coast. Read More >

How did you become interested in your profession?

I don't remember exactly what led me to weather, but as a child growing up I was always fascinated by meteorology. I was good at math and science, and so it seemed like a natural fit, and the interest stuck with me through my youth. Growing up so close to Oklahoma and one of the best programs for meteorology in the nation at the University of Oklahoma, I was able to remain close to home while attending a great school for my profession.

What led you to a career with the NWS (National Weather Service)?

Out of college I started with a private sector weather company in Norman, OK, where I had many friends and classmates from college already working. I began as overnight support, working my way onto the forecast desk where I spent around 6 years. After the company moved to Minneapolis in 2020, I decided to begin seeking my goal to join the NWS.

How did you end up in Pendleton?

I applied to Pendleton and the NWS after I left my private sector job, which is now my first and current position with the NWS! I began in May of 2021, selecting the region as I knew I wanted to be somewhere a bit cooler than Oklahoma, and thought it could be a fun and unique environment to hone my skills in (and so far I have been correct!)

What do you enjoy most about working for the NWS?

Everyone can benefit from better weather information in their lives, and I want to be able to help both my fellow co-workers, public, and partners grow together in our understanding of the atmosphere. When I get a tough forecast right or I can help someone make an important decision in regards to the weather, this is where I get the most joy from my job.

What is your favorite type of weather and why?

I adore fall weather more than anything, particularly a chilly and overcast day with a nice breeze blowing the falling leaves.

What is the most memorable weather event you've ever experienced?

I was able to chase and witness the May 20th, 2013 Moore EF-5 tornado in person. After the tragic storm ravaged the city, I spent the rest of the day in the remnants of the path of the tornado, as both my girlfriend at the time and her father were impacted by it. Luckily, both of them were okay, and their homes did not receive major damage. I spent that week volunteering at a local animal shelter to help with the influx of displaced pets.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I'm a hardcore gamer, metal and rock music enthusiast, and Marvel movie nerd. Aside from these, I love spending time with my family including my girlfriend and her son, as well as my two amazing dogs, Frank and Stormie.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I hope to be able to move up into a lead forecaster position, possibly even becoming a Warning Coordination Meteorologist, as I love helping to lead as well as interact with the public and people.
