Overview
During the evening of August 16, 2016 severe thunderstorms produced hail and heavy rain in many Minnesota and Wisconsin counties. In Minnesota, 1.5 inch hail was reported in Hennepin and Cass counties and over 3 inches of rain fell in Burnsville, Lakeville, and Shakopee. There was flash-flooding in Burnsville, Eden Prairie, and Apple Valley as well. |

Environment
High humidity, weak upper and lower-level winds, a trough axis over Minnesota, and the passage of a cold front allowed for a favorable severe storm/flood environment. Multiple storms tracking over the same area led to flooding in many cities.
