Storm Systems to Impact the Central and Eastern U.S. Through the Weekend

Two storm systems will track through the central and eastern U.S. today through this weekend with areas of gusty winds, rain and heavy snow. Severe thunderstorms and heavy to excessive rainfall is forecast today from the Lower Mississippi River Valley to the Tennessee Valley. A damage survey by the National Weather Service, along with radar data, concludes that a wet microburst caused wind damage 2 miles southwest of New Glarus. A number of trees were either uprooted or snapped off, and there was damage to a residence which included a playset and a large statue. This damage occured along County Road N from County Road H down to Meadow Valley Road. All damage was consistent with straight line winds.

The Weather Service is also investigating a report of a tornado 2 miles southwest of Monticello. A trained spotter reported the tornado which occurred in the middle of a field and quickly dissipated. The preliminary rating of this tornado is EF 0 with a path length of 0.25 miles.
