Today, June 18, 2016, marks the 10th year anniversary of the Hartford F1 tornado that went through town Father's Day, June 18, 2006. The tornado was on the ground from 1:27 to 1:39 PM, with a path length of 4.6 miles, path width of 400 yards, one injury reported (no deaths), and caused approximately 4 million dollars in damage.

The tornado began in Dodge county, southeast of Rubicon. The segment of the tornado in Washington county began 2 miles west of Hartford (about 0.6 miles south of where Highway 60 goes east into Dodge county), and headed east-southeast through the southern portion of Hartford. The tornado strengthened to a high end F1 as it passed through the city. Around 147 residences sustained at least some damage ranging from tree damage to severe structural damage. Ten businesses also sustained structural damage. Lincoln Elementary School's roof was completely destroyed, while the Silver Bell Motel suffered roof and structural damage. The tornado continued east-southeast until it dissipated 2.7 miles southeast of Hartford (about 0.1 miles southeast of the northern intersection of county highways E and K) at 1:39 PM. Winds were determined to be in the 64-97 knot range (73-112 mph).
