PRECIPITATION IN THE MISSOURI BASIN DURING SEPTEMBER WAS GENERALLY
AVERAGE TO ABOVE AVERAGE.  PRECIPITATION IN MONTANA WAS ABOVE
AVERAGE, WITH AMOUNTS  RANGING FROM 33 PERCENT OF AVERAGE (0.7 IN.)
AT WHISKEY CREEK, MT TO 295% OF AVERAGE (3.30 IN.) AT BAKER, MT.
PRECIPITATION IN WYOMING RANGED FROM AVERAGE TO ABOVE AVERAGE WITH
REPORTS RANGING FROM 4 PERCENT OF AVERAGE (0.04 IN.) AT FT. LARAMIE,
WY TO 327 PERCENT OF AVERAGE (4.18 IN.) AT DEVILS TOWER, WY.
PRECIPITATION IN NORTHEASTERN COLORADO WAS ABOVE AVERAGE WITH
REPORTS RANGING FROM 20 PERCENT OF AVERAGE (0.21 IN.)  AT
BRIGHTON, CO TO 412 PERCENT OF AVERAGE (3.01 IN.) AT LINDEN, CO.

September 2006 Basin Mean Precipitation

 

STORED  WATER IN THE  SOUTH  PLATTE  BASIN AS OF OCTOBER 1 WAS 80
PERCENT OF  AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.  OF THE FOUR MAJOR
IRRIGATION  RESERVOIRS IN MONTANA, LIMA  RESERVOIR HAD 122 PERCENT
AVERAGE  STORAGE; CLARK CANYON WAS HOLDING 55 PERCENT OF AVERAGE
WATER, GIBSON RESERVOIR HAD 35 PERCENT OF AVERAGE STORED WATER AND
FRESNO RESERVOIR  HAD  81  PERCENT  OF AVERAGE STORED WATER.  OF THE
THREE MAJOR HYDROELECTRIC  RESERVOIRS IN MONTANA, CANYON  FERRY AND
FORT PECK HAD  MONTHEND STORAGE IN THE AVERAGE RANGE; 91 AND 57
PERCENT OF AVERAGE WATER, RESPECTIVELY.  BIGHORN RESERVOIR WAS
HOLDING 78 PERCENT OF AVERAGE STORED WATER.
RUNOFF DURING SEPTEMBER, AS INDICATED BY U.S.  GEOLOGICAL SURVEY
LONG TERM GAGING  STATIONS,  WAS  BELOW  AVERAGE.  THE  MARIAS
RIVER NEAR SHELBY,   MONTANA   HAD  49  PERCENT  OF   AVERAGE
RUNOFF.  THE YELLOWSTONE  RIVER WAS ESTIMATED TO HAVE HAD 67
PERCENT  OF AVERAGE  RUNOFF AT CORWIN SPRINGS,  WHILE AT  BILLINGS,
MONTANA RUNOFF WAS 54 PERCENT OF AVERAGE.
