Heavy Rainfall Threat for Portions of Mid-Atlantic and Northeast; Heat Linger for Southeast and Expands for the West

Moisture and nearby frontal boundary will focus more showers and thunderstorms for portions of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast today. Rainfall could be locally heavy resulting instances of flash flooding. Meanwhile, the heat lingers for areas of the Southeast and expands across the Western U.S. the next several days. While temperatures will be cooler than the previous several days, the risk for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding continues. This frontal system does not clear the area until late Tuesday which will leave the weather more unsettled. While not as widespread as recent days, further showers and thunderstorms are possible each day this week.
A stalled frontal zone in the presence of tropical moisture will increase the risk of flash flooding across the region this afternoon and evening. Please check out weather.gov/lwx for the latest on Flood Watches across the region.
A review of all of the daily temperature records is shown. In total, 20 records were broken which includes tying the all-time record low at Reagan National Airport (84 degrees on July 3).
