Dangerous Heat in the Central and Eastern U.S.; Severe Thunderstorms in the Central U.S. and Northeast; Critical Fire Weather in the Four Corners

Dangerous, record-breaking heat will intensify across most of the central and eastern U.S this week. Heat indices will likely exceed 100 degrees. Severe thunderstorms are forecast from parts of the central High Plains into the Upper Midwest, and across parts of the Northeast. Excessive heat and humidity will gradually build over the region through the middle of the week. Conditions should largely remain dry through Wednesday, but a popup afternoon shower or storm can't be completely ruled out, especially over the mountains. With excessive heat and humidity expect severe weather chances to increase late week as high pressure breaks down.
Several days of hot temperatures are expected to impact the region this week. This will yield Major to Extreme levels of Heat Risk.
With a lengthy bout of hot temperatures expected this week, ensure you find ways to stay hydrated and out of the heat. Temperatures remain very warm into the overnight hours as well which will exacerbate these issues.
An upper ridge building across the area will lead to well above average temperatures over the region this week. Widespread highs will push into the 95 to 104 degree range, with even higher heat indices. These are some historical daily, monthly, and all-time records.
