Excessive Rainfall and Potential Tropical Cyclone in the South; Severe Thunderstorms in the Midwest

Excessive rainfall may produce locally considerable flash flooding over parts of the northwestern Gulf Coast, lower Mississippi River Valley, and Deep South through Thursday. Potential Tropical Cyclone One is forecast to become a tropical storm (Arthur) as it moves along or just off the northwestern Gulf coast through Wednesday. A warm front will produce a line of showers across eastern Virginia and southern Maryland early this morning. Additional showers could develop further north later this morning. A batch of showers is moving east across southwest Pennsylvania and is currently clipping northwest Garrett County in western Maryland. Additional showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder could develop over western Maryland. Otherwise, dry conditions most locations with warmer temperatures in the middle to upper 80s. Tonight's temperatures will be warmer as well. Dry tonight. Showers and strong to severe thunderstorms could impact most of the region Thursday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will push into the lower to middle 90s east of the Blue Ridge and the middle 80s or cooler to the west Thursday.
