Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Central Plains and Midwest; Heat Pushes into the South and East

Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of large hail in excess of two inches, strong tornadoes, and damaging wind gusts are likely across parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley and Midwest this evening. Strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible today and Friday amid a hot, humid, and unstable atmosphere. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and isolated hail are possible during the afternoon & evening hours. Additionally, heat indices of 100º to 105º F are possible. Less humid with no rain expected Saturday.
A cold front approaches Friday. More numerous thunderstorms are likely, and these may again contain damaging wind gusts or large hail.
