Heat Wave and Severe Thunderstorms this Independence Day

Independence Day will bring another day of hot & humid conditions, some of which may break additional daily climate records. There is the risk of strong to severe thunderstorms through Sunday. Additionally, as this frontal system stalls nearby, a risk of flash flooding exists late in the weekend into Monday night.
Continued heat & humidity will increase the risk of severe thunderstorms this holiday weekend. The threat increases today into Sunday as the upper ridge slowly begins to break down.
Several days of hot temperatures are expected to impact the region this holiday weekend. This will yield Major to Extreme levels of Heat Risk before temperatures return to near average on Monday.
With a lengthy bout of hot temperatures through the holiday weekend, ensure you find ways to stay hydrated and out of the heat. Temperatures remain very warm into the overnight hours as well which will exacerbate these issues.
