A few severe storms are expected late this afternoon and evening. Hail to baseball size and wind gusts of 70 mph are possible. Have a severe weather plan before storms strike!
Thunderstorms are expected to develop by late afternoon across areas on the caprock and spread east through the evening. Storms are expected to quickly become severe with large hail and damaging wind gusts.
Thunderstorm chances expected this afternoon and evening. Temperatures will mostly be in the 80s with clearing skies in the afternoon.
Another day of thunderstorm chances are expected late Friday. Storms that develop will be capable of large hail and damaging winds.
Mild temperatures will cool toward the weekend behind a cold front Friday. Daily chances for showers and thunderstorms, including some severe storms, are expected each day.

 

 

 

Local Weather History For April 24th...
1973: A tornado touched down in open country early this night eight miles northwest of Abernathy. This one-minute tornado
did no damage, however hail up to the size of golf balls damaged autos and roof tops from Abernathy southeast into Lubbock
and Crosby Counties. This hail also accumulated up to depths of six inches and severely damaged wheat crops. A total of
three funnel clouds were also sighted with this storm as it moved southeast and passed several miles to the north and
northeast of Lubbock.
