Last Map Update: Mon, Jul 15, 2024 at 11:26:32 pm CDT

Expect mild conditions and clear skies tonight. Low temperatures will range from the upper 60s and low 70s on the Caprock to the mid- to-upper 70s off the Caprock.
Tuesday looks to be another hot one, with most of the forecast area hitting the century mark. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms across the far southern Texas Panhandle on Tuesday afternoon.
Temperatures up to 106 degrees are likely today across portions of Briscoe, Hall, Childress, and Cottle counties. A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 PM until 7 PM Tuesday for these areas. This heat can cause heat illness, so limit outdoor activities this afternoon.
The heat takes a break by midweek and gives way to cooler and unsettled weather through early next week. Highs will dip into the 80s and lower 90s for many areas by late week. While there will be chances for showers and thunderstorms each day not everyone will see rain every day.
During hot days, try to limit your pet's outdoor exercise to the early morning or late evening. Make sure they have plenty of water to drink, and protect their paws from hot pavement.

Local Weather History For July 15th...
1962: Destructive thunderstorm winds broke a large H-type pole tower owned by the TX Electric Company one mile south of
White Flat early this afternoon. This tower fell on a rural electrification power line causing a blackout to much of the
area. One mile farther south, similar winds broke six poles and snapped a half-mile of power lines. Barn roofs were also
blown off in the vicinity.
