Local Weather History For January 9th...
1949 (9th-12th): An ice storm of unusual size and intensity wreaked havoc on all of West Texas and southeast New Mexico
before tracking into Oklahoma and south-central Missouri. Long-distance phone circuits were disabled throughout all of
West Texas by ice that grew up to three inches thick on power and communication lines. This event remains the worst ice
storm ever to hit Midland.
