Severe Thunderstorm Threat From the Central Plains to the Northeast; Extreme HeatRisk for the East Coast

If you think it's been unusually hot lately, that's because these temperatures are more typical of July! Average temperatures through the first week of October were around 15 degrees above normal. Lexington, KY recorded its warmest first week of October on record. Meanwhile, it was the second warmest first week of October on record at Louisville, Frankfort, and Bowling Green. 

 

Lexington's previous warmest first week of October on record occurred in 1941, when the average temperature was 77.1 degrees. Louisville's warmest first week of October on record had an average temperature of 79.5 degrees in 1884.
