Severe Weather and Heavy Rain from the Great Lakes to the Mid-Atlantic; Heat Persists in the East

Widespread strong thunderstorms with damaging winds and locally heavy rain are expected from the Upper Ohio Valley into the southern Mid-Atlantic today and portions of the central Appalachians and Carolinas on Saturday. Notes:  This weak tornado did tree damage as it briefly touched down along Mount Pleasant Road northwest of Bedford, snapping upper-level tree branches in a narrow path.  Occupants of a mobile home witnessed the tornado as it approached from the west, and they took shelter in their bathroom.  While a large tree next to their home crushed a pickup truck as it came down, their home sustained minimal damage.
