Severe Thunderstorm Threat From the Central Plains to the Northeast; Extreme HeatRisk for the East Coast

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from the central Plains to the Northeast through this evening. Widespread damaging winds are the primary threat but hail and a tornado or two is also possible. Unfortunately we are no longer able to generate the temperature and precipitation maps with the method we have been using for the past several years. We are working on finding another way to produce these maps each day. 

In the meantime, check the "News Headlines" section at the top of our main web page on days that a precipitation map is generated (using a method we're currently experimenting with). We usually post the maps sometime between 11am and noon Eastern Time when precipitation has occurred over approximately the previous 24 hours.
