Severe Weather Threats Across the Plains; Dangerous Heat and Wildfire Concerns for the West; Watching the Tropics

Severe thunderstorms are expected across the Central Plains accompanied by damaging wind gusts and large hail. In addition, heavy rainfall may lead to instances of flash flooding from the Plains and mid-Atlantic regions. On May 28, 1996 an F4 tornado touched down in Jefferson Memorial Forest southwest of Louisville and tore through northern Bullitt County and western Spencer County.  The Louisville NWS office has created a poster about this event.  Also, we are grateful for the following photos that were shared with us (click on an image to see a larger version):
