Severe Thunderstorm Threat From the Central Plains to the Northeast; Extreme HeatRisk for the East Coast

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from the central Plains to the Northeast through this evening. Widespread damaging winds are the primary threat but hail and a tornado or two is also possible. On April 16, Bellarmine University in Louisville became the sixth university in Kentucky to be recognized as a StormReady University. Bellarmine is the Commonwealth's first private StormReady university. The Office of Public Safety has aligned the University's severe weather response with national best practices, and developed a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan that could be a model for campus preparedness everywhere.
