Another Round of Heavy Rain and Mountain Snow in California; Snow in the Great Lakes and Northeast

Another round of heavy rainfall will renew concerns for additional flash flooding and landslides in southern California around burn scars and coastal mountain ranges. A low pressure system is bringing enhanced snowfall downwind from the lower Great Lakes into the Northeast mountain ranges. You may be wondering, just how windy has it been this year...it seems like there have been a lot of wind advisories?  The graphic below indicates where 2016, from January 1st to present, compares to similar times period back to 1971 at Louisville International Airport.  To date, there have been 38 days with peak wind gusts greater than or equal to 30 mph, whereas there have been 10 days with peak wind gusts greater than or equal to 40 mph!  There is still a chance that winds may top 30 mph the rest of this evening, as a cold front approaches our region.
