Overview
A cyclic supercell moved along a cold frontal boundary during the afternoon and evening of June 17th. The storm produced several short-lived tornadoes that did sporadic damage between the town of Big Springs and about 15 miles southwest of Tryon in McPherson County.Tornadoes:

An NWS Survey team was able to identify four tornado tracks and three areas of straight line wind damage. The most significant straight line wind damage was about 5 1/2 miles southwest of Big Springs when estimated 85 mph winds blew the roof off of a machine shed and removed the roof. Several water and feed tanks were blown as far away as one half mile. One steel watering tank was bent in half across a fence. There was also some damage in and around Big Springs, including an uprooted tree that due to straight line winds estimated to be around 70 mph. Just west of Big Springs, power poles were leaning and large tree limbs broken in the cemetery due to estimated 85 mph winds. North of town, an old outbuilding lost a portion of the roof and the cinder block wall collapsed due to estimated 80 mph winds.

The first homestead had a pig shed that lost a portion of the roof. 2x6 beams were tossed 30 yards into the side of a garage, piercing the side of the garage. The tornado also ripped off asphalt shingles from a nearby outbuilding. The tornado then went on to another farm where two full pivots were flipped, one by the tornado and one by straight line winds. The tornado continued on to the northeast and hit another homestead where the windows were shattered, a door was blown in and door jamb damaged while the residents attempted to hold the door shut.
