The Jackson Weather Forecast Office (WFO) is a local branch of the U.S. Department of Commerce National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service. Our area of responsibility, or County Warning Area (CWA), includes 58 counties and parishes in central and south Mississippi, northeast Louisiana, and southeast Arkansas. We operate 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and our mission is to provide weather, water, and climate data, forecasts and warnings for the protection of life and property and enhancement of the national economy. Some of our primary duties include:

  • Official severe weather watches, warnings, and advisories
  • Routine 7-day public forecasts, forecast discussions, and hazardous weather outlooks
  • Hydrological monitoring and warnings for several local waterways, including the Mississippi River from Arkansas City, AR to near Natchez, MS
  • Terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAFs) for nine local airports
  • Twice-daily fire weather forecasts for forestry planning and management and spot forecasts for controlled burns and wildfires
  • Collection and quality control of local climate and hydrometeorological data
  • NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards broadcasts for eight local radio stations
  • Maintenance of seven local Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) sites and the Brandon, MS WSR-88D Doppler radar

Office Location/Directions
Our office is located just off of MS Highway 475 (Airport Rd) on the north end of the Jackson Medgar-Wiley Evers International Airport at 234 Weather Service Drive.

Tours:We gladly provide tours of our facility to small/medium sized groups, but we request that you schedule in advance so we can ensure adequate staffing will be available. For more information, please contact Sarah Sickles.

Directions:
From the north: Heading south on I-55, take exit 98B for Lakeland Drive/MS Highway 25. Turn left (north) onto Lakeland Drive/MS Highway 25. Turn right on Airport Road. Turn left on Weather Service Drive, and drive approximately one-half mile. Our office is on the right.

From the south: Heading north on I-55 or US 49, exit onto I-20 east. Take exit 52 for MS Highway 475/Jackson-Evers Intl Airport. Turn left (north) onto MS Highway 475. Turn right on Weather Service Drive, and drive approximately one-half mile. Our office is on the right.

From the east: Heading west on I-20, take exit 52 for MS Highway 475/Jackson-Evers Intl Airport. Turn right (north) onto MS Highway 475. Turn right on Weather Service Drive, and drive approximately one-half mile. Our office is on the right.
