National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

Severe thunderstorms will be likely this afternoon into the evening as a low pressure system moves across the region. The primary hazards with these storms will include damaging wind gusts as high as 60 to 70 mph, tornadoes possible (strong tornado can't be ruled out), and quarter size hail. The primary impacts from storms for areas near and west of the Mississippi River will be approximately between 1PM and 6PM, between 4PM and 10PM for central Mississippi in the Interstate 55 corridor, and between 7PM and 1AM for eastern and southeastern Mississippi in the Interstate 59 to Highway 45 corridors.
Before thunderstorms arrive today, strong winds out of the south are expected to be sustained between 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 40 to 50 mph at times. Winds could cause some trees and powerlines to be downed, and travel may be more difficult for high profile vehicles, especially on west to east facing roads.
Arctic air will arrive in the region tonight and linger through late next week, with most locations seeing wind chills as low as around 15 degrees and overnight low temperatures in the lower to mid 20s. Conditions will be especially cold in the northern half of our forecast area, mainly along and north of Interstate 20 into the US Highway 82 corridor. Afternoon high temperatures on several days may not warm above the mid to upper 30s. Area residents should take care to protect sensitive vegetation and water pipes. Please make sure friends and family members have a warm place to stay.
Mostly Cloudy skies to the east and partly cloudy to the west, with high temperatures well below seasonal norms for Monday.
