A mix of freezing rain and sleet is expected to impact the northwest portions of the area beginning as early as Friday evening and spread southward through Sunday. Impacts will likely include hazardous to near impossible travel conditions and downed trees and power outages. Power outages, particularly in northwest portions of the area, could extend for multiple days.

Extremely dangerous cold is likely this weekend into early next week . Temperatures across the area will fall well below freezing with lows in the single digits expected in the north and northwest. Highs during the period of coldest weather, likely extending from Sunday into early Tuesday morning, will remain at or below freezing for central and northwestern portions of the area. Frostbite can occur quickly and hypothermia is likely with prolonged exposure to these temperatures. Damage to exposed pipes and water main breaks are likely. Areas that receive accumulating ice will be more prone to the coldest temperatures and power outages in some areas could make extreme cold more dangerous. Ensure you have a way to stay warm in the event of a power outage, particularly across central and north or northwestern areas.
