Summary of Damage in Warren County

 

The NWS in Jackson conducted a survey across western Hinds and Warren Counties. The team found extensive straight line wind damage across a large portion of western and west-central Hinds County, as well as much of central Warren County. Four short tornado paths were also found on the north side of the wind damage swaths.

Eagle Lake Tornado:
Starting Point: 3 WNW Eagle Bend at 1122 AM CD
Ending Point: 1 SE Eagle Bend at 1126 AM CDT

Maximum Width: 300 yards
Maximum Rating: EF1 with maximum winds 100-105 MPH
Injuries: 1

Summary: An area of straight line wind damage occurred just before the tornado, about 5 WNW of Eagle Bend, where Hwy 465 and the levee meet. Here a mobile home was rolled over and a few trees snapped. Winds were estimated at 85 mph. Shortly after this, tornadic damage began along Hwy 465. The tornado was rather wide, 300 yds, and tracked east-southeast for 4 miles through the heart of the Eagle Lake Community. Hundreds of trees were snapped or uprooted with 30-40 homes, mostly mobile homes, damaged by downed trees. Several power lines were also taken down by trees. Several structures, about 10-15 homes, sustained shingle/roof damage or had carports/awnings torn off. Most of the trees were blown to the southeast and roof damage was on the west-northwest side of homes. However, several locations along the path had trees blown down to the north-northwest with some shingle damage on the east facing side.

Starting Point: 4 W Bovina at 1152 AM CDT
Ending Point: 2 W Bovina at 1154 AM CDT
Path Length: 2 miles
Maximum Width: 200 yards
Maximum Rating: EF1 with maximum winds 95-100 mph

Summary: This brief tornado touched down along Warriors Trail Road between Vicksburg and Bovina, just south of I-20 and Hwy 80, and tracked east for 2 miles. Numerous trees were snapped and uprooted. Several power lines were taken down by trees. A couple structures were damaged by downed trees.
