THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JACKSON DISPATCHED A TEAM ON NOVEMBER 26, 2001 TO SURVEY DAMAGE FROM AN  F1TORNADO WHICH OCCURRED SATURDAY NOVEMBER 24, 2001 ACROSS NOXUBEE COUNTY IN NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI. THE TEAM FOUND A CONTINUOUS PATH OF DAMAGE FROM 4.5 MILES NORTHEAST OF MACON, MISSISSIPPI WHERE THE TORNADO FIRST TOUCHED DOWN AT 1010 AM CST...TO 12 MILES NORTHEAST OF MACON WHERE THE TORNADO DISSIPATED AT 1016 AM CST. TIMES ARE BASED ON RADAR DATA. THE TOTAL PATH LENGTH WAS 8.1 MILES WITH A MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH OF 50 YARDS. THE TORNADO WAS REPORTED TO HAVE MOVED NORTHEAST AT 40 TO 50 MPH ALONG IT'S PATH PER EYEWITNESS REPORTS.  

DAMAGE ALONG THE TORNADO'S PATH INCLUDED: METAL ROOFING TORN OFF A HOG BARN WHERE THE TORNADO FIRST TOUCHED WON...NUMEROUS AREAS OF TWISTED BARBED WIRE FENCE...TOTAL OF 8 BARNS TOTALLY DESTROYED WITH 3 BARNS BADLY DAMAGED...A MILKING PARLOR DESTROYED...2 SHEDS DESTROYED...3 FARM HOMES WITH SHINGLES RIPPED OFF ROOFS...1 DAMAGED 75 FT GRAIN SILO...1 SMALL...BUT DESTROYED AIRPLANE HANGER WHICH HOUSED A SMALL...SINGLE PROP PLANE. THE PLANE ITSELF SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO IT'S WINGS BUT WASN'T TOTALLY DESTROYED...TWO CATTLE TRAILERS TURNED OVER ALONG WITH A FARM TRACTOR WITH IT'S WINDOWS BLOWN OUT. FINALLY...NUMEROUS TREES WERE EITHER TWISTED OR SNAPPED OFF 4-5 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND ALONG THE EDGES OF FIELDS WHICH HAD SHEET METAL STREWN ACROSS THEM WITH A FEW SHEETS WRAPPED UP IN TREES. THE WORST DAMAGE OCCURRED THE LAST 2-3 MILES OF THE TORNADO'S PATH WHERE THE AIRPLANE AND IT'S ASSOCIATED HANGER WERE LOCATED. THIS TORNADO WAS SIGHTED ON THE GROUND BY AREA RESIDENTS.
