Hale County Tornado - October 22, 2007

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed storm damage in eastern Hale County. It has been determined that the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with estimated maximum winds around 100 mph.
A tornado touched down along County Road 12, just east of the Laneville Community, at approximately 1044 PM. The tornado tracked north northeast for 9.4 miles, crossed County Road 16 and State Highway 61, and lifted near the intersection of State Highway 61 and County Road 24 around 1101 PM. The tornado damage path was 50 yards wide at its widest point. At least 20 homes sustained damage with 11 of the homes severely damaged. One airplane hangar suffered major damage at the intersection of County Road 24 and State Highway 61. Numerous trees were either uprooted or snapped off along the path. At least 20 vehicles sustained varying degrees of damage. The highest winds affected areas near the intersection of County Road 10 and Dodge City Road. Two minor inuries were reported as a result of this tornado. A Tornado Warning was in effect from 1044 PM valid until 1115 PM.
