June 9, 2008 Severe Weather

Two rounds of thunderstorms brought damaging winds and large hail to Central Indiana once again on June 9. The storms formed along a slow moving cold front. Below are lists of severe weather reported to the NWS office:

Hail reports:

Golf ball size hail (1.75 inch) broke a wind shield of a truck on Interstate 70 near Terre Haute around 3:00 PM
Golf ball size hail was reported at Pendleton in Madison county around 5:00 PM
One inch hail was reported at Brazil in Clay county near 10:00 PM
Nickel size (0.88 inch) hail was reported near Merom in Sullivan county at 2:30 PM, at Greencastle in Putnam county at 9:41 PM, and in Greensburg in Decatur county at 12:30 AM (June 10).
Three quarter inch hail was reported during the afternoon near Martinsville in Morgan county, Indianapolis, Fishers in Hamilton county, and Fairland in Shelby county.

Wind and Wind Damage reports:

A 74 mph gust was reported in Anderson at 4:50 PM
A 69 mph gust was reported at Pike High School in Indianapolis at 11:26 PM
Winds were estimated at 65 mph at Yorktown in Delaware county at 5:00 PM and north of Plainfield in Hendricks county at 11:07 PM
A 62 mph gust was reported at the Muncie airport at 5:06 PM
A 61 mph wind gust was reported at the Terre Haute airport at 3:11 PM
Trees were blown down in Hendricks county around 4:00 PM and again around 11:15 PM
Powerlines were downed in on the northwest side of Indianapolis near 11:30 PM
A tree was blown down east of Noblesville in Hamilton county at 11:50 PM

Flood reports:

Reports of flooded roads were received during the afternoon and evening in the following counties: Hendricks, Owen, Marion, Knox, and Hamilton.
