Showers and thunderstorms moved through central Indiana earlier today, producing excessive rainfall amounts that led to significant flooding of streams and lowland areas.   Rainfall totals ranged from 3 to 5 inches across much of Hendricks, Marion, and Morgan Counties and smaller portions of Shelby, Carroll, and Howard Counties.  But, the highest impacts were over west central Johnson County where more than 7 inches of rain fell.

In addition, a new record was set for July 11, 2017, at Indianapolis for most rainfall over 24 hours with 3.78 inches of rain, beating the previous record of 2.49 inches in 2006.  This also marks the 18th wettest 24-hour rainfall total ever for Indianapolis, which was previously 3.73 inches.
