Environment
A very favorable environment was in place during the evening hours of April 8th. Strong shear and upper level dynamics were in place which allowed for the line of storms to develop and maintain as they crossed through central Indiana even with CAPE values not as high as would be typically seen during a widespread severe weather event. Low level lapse rates were greater than 8.5 C/km ahead of the storms which allowed for efficient mixing down of thunderstorm wind gusts as well as producing large hail. One thing to note is that the 0-1km shear and helicity initially was relatively low before low level turning of the winds brought sufficient Helicity to allow for mesovorticies to form in the line and eventually a tornado.
