National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

September is National Preparedness Month:

Are you Ready for the Impacts of Disasters??

  • If a natural disaster were to impact you or your community are you prepared?

  • Do you have a disaster kit with extra clothing, non-perishable food, first aid supplies and medication, and items for your pets?

  • If you lost your home or business do you have important records, photos, etc...backed up or stored somewhere else?

  • If an ice storm or widespread wind storm struck your community, are you prepared to be without power for more than 3 days - possibly more than a week?

The time to adequately prepare is NOT when the storm is
bearing down on you or already occurring - but well in
advance
! That is the reason for National Preparedness Month.
The National Weather Service, the Illinois Emergency
Management Agency (IEMA), FEMA, the American Red Cross
and other organizations have plenty of preparedness materials
available for you to answer these questions and more!
