October 2021 Precipitation Highlights:

  • October was a very wet month across central and southeast IL with 4 to 9 inches of rainfall common. Peoria had 9.68 inches of rain making it their 2nd wettest October and 14th wettest month on record. Lincoln had its 4th wettest October with 6.74 inches of rain, while Springfield had its 9th wettest October with 5.81 inches of rain.  Canton had 9.82 inches, Morton had 9.46 inches and Jacksonville had 9.42 inches of rain in October, which was 6.3 inches above normal!  Flora in Clay county was one of the few locations that had below normal rainfall with just over 3 inches of precipitation during the month.  Two fairly large severe weather events occurred during the month on Monday Oct 11th and on Sunday Oct 24th.

October 2021 Temperature Highlights:

  • Like September, October was a warmer than normal month across central and southeast IL, with much of the area 4 to 8 degrees warmer than normal.  Peoria was tied for its 5th warmest October and Lincoln had its 11th warmest October on record. The first two weeks of October had temperatures averaging 10 to 20 degrees above normal with highs in the mid to upper 80s on Oct 1st and 10th.  Temperatures cooled closer to normal from Oct 21-31st. No freezes were observed during October so there was an extended growing season more than two weeks past the normal.
