Key Points:

  • November 2018 monthly precipitation was near or below normal.  Bloomington, Decatur and Effingham were around 1 inch below normal precipitation during the month, with most other cities in central IL within a half inch of their average normal monthly precipitation for November. 
     
  • Snowfall amounts were well above normal during November in central and western IL, with areas from I-55 west being 6 to 12 inches above normal snowfall.  Areas along the Indiana border had slightly above normal snowfall amounts. Galesburg had 14.5 inches of snow during November, with 10 inches of that falling during the Nov 25-26 blizzard.  Springfield had 11.4 inches and this was their snowiest November on record.  Peoria had their 2nd snowiest November on record with 9.8 inches.  Lincoln had their 5th snowiest November with 7.1 inches.   A blizzard on Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning Nov 25-26th brought 6-12 inches of snow to Knox and Stark counties, with 13.2 inches in Altona in northern Knox county.   
     
  • November 2018 monthly temperatures were well below normal across central and southeast IL, ranging from 6-8 degrees below normal.  Many cities had below normal temperatures for 2.5 weeks from Nov 5-21.  A shortly bitter cold snap following the blizzard saw temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal from Nov 26-28.  Tuesday Nov 27 only saw highs of 20-25 across the area.  Lincoln had its 3rd coldest November on record, while Springfield had its 5th coldest and Peoria had its 8th coldest November on record.   The coldest morning was Wednesday Nov 28 when lows reached around 10 degrees along and northwest of I-55.  The mildest day in central IL was Saturday Nov 24 when highs reached 55 to 60 degrees with the help of breezy southwest winds and afternoon sunshine. Southeast IL's mildest day was Sunday Nov 25 when highs reached the lower 60s.
