May 2022 Precipitation Highlights:

  • May saw slightly below normal precipitation across much of central Illinois, with most locations experiencing precipitation deficits between 0 and 2 inches. There were a few areas that saw above normal precipitation, including parts of west-central Illinois and areas near the I-70 corridor

May 2022 Temperature Highlights:

  • Temperatures were 1 to 3 degrees above normal across central and southeastern Illinois during May. The month actually started off on the cool side, with most locations a few degrees cooler than normal during the first week of the month. However, a significant warm-up came during May 9-13 when temperatures jumped to 15-20 degrees above normal, and highs soared into the 90s. Several temperature records were tied or broken during that period. High temperatures returned to the upper 80s or low 90s a few other times during the month, including Memorial Day weekend.

June 2022 Look Ahead:

  • The official June 2022 outlooks from NOAA's Climate Predication center show below normal temperatures are favored across the northern half of Illinois, while there are equal chances of above or below normal temperatures across southern Illinois. There are equal chances of above or below normal precipitation across almost all of Illinois.
  • Normal conditions for June in central Illinois include high temperatures in the low to mid 80s, low temperatures in the low to mid 60s, and around 4.5 inches of precipitation.
