Key Points:

  • January featured much above normal temperatures for all of central and southeast Illinois.  Average daily temperatures were 5 to 7 degrees above normal.
  • Snowfall was well below normal.  Many sites saw less than one inch of snow for the entire month, which put them near their top 10 "least snowy" January on record.
  • A sharp west-east gradient in precipitation was observed across the central part of the state.  West central Illinois precipitation totals were around 1 inch below normal, while in east central Illinois totals were around 1 inch above normal.
