Overview

A strong winter storm moved across the middle Mississippi River Valley on New Year's Day 2022. Widespread snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches were seen across parts of northern and central Illinois, with some isolated reports of up to 7 inches. Gusty north-northwest winds created some blowing and drifting of the fluffy snowfall. As the event subsided, very cold temperatures arrived with wind chills in the single digits above and below zero.
