Feb 2022 Precipitation Central ILFeb 2022 Precipitation Departure from Normal in Central IL

 

February 2022 Precipitation Highlights:

  • February saw well above normal precipitation across the area with the highest totals across southeast IL. Most saw precipitation departures of 1 to 3 inches higher than normal. Our climate sites in Peoria and Lincoln both saw daily precipitation records on February 2 (Groundhog Day Winter Storm). Lincoln even recorded it's 8th wettest February on record with 3.35" falling during the month.  

February 2022 Precipitation Records:

  • 8th wettest February in Lincoln with 3.35" of precipitation.
  • ​Record daily precipitation of 0.71" on February 2 in Peoria. 
  • Record daily precipitation of 0.81" on February 2 in Lincoln.

 



 

Feb 2022 Snow Central ILFeb 2022 Snowfall Departure from Normal in Central IL

 

February 2022 Snowfall Highlights:

  • Snowfall was also well above normal area wide with 3 winter storms bringing most of the snow at the beginning, middle, and end of the month. The heaviest snows from all the winter storms fell within an area positioned between the IL River and roughly I-57 where departures of 6-12"+ were seen. Our climate sites in Peoria, Springfield, and Lincoln not only set several daily snowfall records, but also ranked in the snowiest February's on record.

February 2022 Snowfall Records:​

  • 2nd snowiest February on record in Lincoln with 20.3" of snow.
  • 4th snowiest February on record in Peoria with 19.2" of snow.
  • 4th snowiest February on record in Springfield with 18.3" of snow.
  • Record daily snowfall of 8.2" set on February 2 in Peoria.
  • Record daily snowfall of 6.6" set on February 17 in Peoria.
  • Record daily snowfall of 7.9" set on February 2 in Springfield.
  • Record daily snowfall of 5.2" set on February 17 in Springfield.
  • Record daily snowfall of 8.3" set on February 2 in Lincoln.
  • Record daily snowfall of 6.8" set on February 17 in Lincoln.

February 2022 Temperature Highlights:

  • Temperatures across central Illinois ranged from 2 to 4 degrees below normal during the month of February. The month started off rather mild with several locations reporting temperatures on February 1 in the 50s! However, frequent cold snaps brought the overall average below normal for the month.

  • The official March 2022 outlooks from NOAA's Climate Predication center show warmer than normal temperatures favored across the entire state of IL. Wetter than normal precipitation is also favored for the state.
