The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) who run the Beardstown river gage on the Illinois River, discovered that there was a discrepancy from what the automated gage was reporting versus a manual river reading that they took. The automated gage readings were 0.32 feet higher than what was actually occurring. Therefore, the USACE made an adjustment to the automated river gage late in the afternoon on 1/4 to adjust for this difference. That explains the sudden drop in stage readings at this location. The current river forecasts also take into account this gage correction. The latest river readings and forecast information for Beardstown are available here.  River level/forecast information from elsewhere in central and southeast Illinois, can be found on our main AHPS page.
