August Precipitation Highlights:

  • August was very dry for all of central and most of southeast IL.  Monthly deficits of 2-3" were common for most of the area north of I-70, with totals closer to normal farther south.  Several reporting sites recorded less than one inch of rain.  The most significant weather event of the month was on the afternoon of the 10th, when widespread damaging winds affected central Illinois.

  • Temperatures were near to slightly below normal across the area in August.  Little in the way of significant heat developed during the month, with only a handful of days reaching highs in the 90s.

Summer Season Overview

  • Conditions were dry for most of central Illinois this summer.  3-month deficits of 2-5" were common, with much of they dryness occurring in August.  However, farther southeast, above normal rainfall was reported across east central and southeast Illinois.  Average temperatures over the 3-month period were near to around 1 degree above normal.
