Overview

Severe thunderstorms developed in west central Illinois the evening of May 22, 2019 and evolved into a strong thunderstorm squall line, that pushed eastward across central Illinois through the late night hours. Widespread damaging wind gusts were associated with the squall line, with wind speeds measured up to 83 mph in Iroquois County in east central Illinois. Four tornadoes that developed along the squall line and subsequent outflow boundary were confirmed, ranging up to EF1 intensity. Widespread tree, power pole and power line damage was observed, and numerous outbuildings were damaged or destroyed. Vehicles were blown off of I-55 and I-74.
