The winter storm that went through last weekend was just the beginning of an active winter weather pattern, that will be affecting the region into next week.

Tonight's winter weather

This Morning:

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 9 am CST for a mix of snow and light freezing rain across much of Central Illinois. Ice accumulations will be light but sufficient to produce slippery conditions on untreated roads and walkways. Snow accumulations will be generally less than an inch with the exception of a band from Chandlerville to Lincoln to LeRoy where two to four inches is possible. Precipitation should taper off by mid-morning.

Friday Night through Saturday

Snow is expected to develop across much of Central Illinois Friday evening. Precipitation may begin as a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain south of I-72. Current expectations are for most of the area north of I-70 to receive 4 to 6 inches of new snowfall before the storm moves east of the area Saturday evening. In addition, north winds will increase to around 20 mph with gusts occasionally exceeding 30 mph by midday Saturday leading to blowing and drifting of the snow. Hazardous driving conditions are expected to develop Friday Night and continue into the weekend. Stay tuned for later forecasts as the storm approaches.

In the wake of this storm, temperatures will drop below normal.  Lows by Monday morning will range from near zero along I-74 to near 10 degrees south of I-70.

Another chance of snow is expected by Tuesday.  At this time it does not appear that this system will be as significant as the one we expect this weekend.
